Whilst prospective clients seem to grasp the Insurance Manager concept fairly quickly, brokers and insurance companies generally take a bit longer. We think this is mainly to do with the ingrained misconception that any firm acting for a client must be another broker. The FSA driven need to tick one of two available boxes - broker/introducer or client - doesn't help.

To clarify:

  • We are not brokers, agents or introducers
  • We do not have agencies with Insurers or introducer agreements with brokers
  • We do have Agreements with our clients to act for them in all dealings with the insurance market, similar to their solicitor or accountant in their respective fields
  • Our clients have chosen to outsource the insurance administration and purchase function, rather than employ a full time insurance and risk manager.
  • When you deal with us you are, effectively, dealing with "the client"
  • We are FSA regulated

A brave claim, but we strongly believe that The Insurance Manager and their ilk reflect the Future of Commercial Insurance. Where relationships are strong enough the traditional client/broker/insurer system will survive but, given the decreasing independence of brokers and evolution of "partner insurers", professional third party representation in insurance matters is now essential and can only grow. We would urge all brokers and insurers to create that third box in readiness.
